September Newsletter

Dear Parents

Welcome to the first of many riveting newsletters ! And welcome to our new parents who won’t realise how eagerly anticipated these newsletters are (copies of the ’99 editions are changing hands for considerable sums !! ) But enough of the waffle and on with the news…

PTA : The PTA AGM is being held in the school hall on Tuesday 3rd. September and we hope as many parents as possible will tun up to give their support. Nursery and Primary parents are all automatically members of the PTA and a vibrant PTA is very good for the school.

New Start : Next Monday our P1’s begin full time. All the children have settled well and enjoying their first weeks in school. The photographer from the East Lothian News should be here next week to capture our new intake.

Clothing : Please mark all clothes, especially sweatshirts and gym shoes, with your child’s name. If your child has lost an item of clothing you will understand why we ask you to make sure clothing is identifiable. Gym bags are a great help in keeping track of clothing. The gym bags from the school are exceptional value and will last a pupil all the way through to P7 and beyond. They will be on sale at the PTA AGM.

Cluster Camp : Our P7’s will heading off to Aberfoyle on the 7th. October in the company of Mrs Lauder and Mr Lavery. The camp, which is attended by P7’s from all the cluster schools is the first activity in P7 transition into secondary school and has proved to be very successful.

Website : Our website continues to go from strength to strength and this year our senior pupils will be taking more of the responsibility for the features on the site. As is now normal all pupils will have their own pages where their work can be highlighted but it will take a week or two to move pupils into their new classes. The site can be found at www.westbarnsprimaryschool.com

Work at School : Over the next week or so painters will be working around the school on the windows and doors which should make a difference to the appearance of the building. And after much delay ( no fault of ours ) the fence is to be erected at the front of the school.

Nursery : Our Nursery goes from strength to strength thanks to our super team of Mrs D’Arcy-Burt and Miss Dingwall. All available places have been filled which augers well for the future of the school.

Stars of the Month : This feature of the newsletters will return next month so look out for your child.

That’s it for this Month

Yours sincerely

 October Newsletter

Dear Parents

Welcome to the October Newsletter. We’re on the run to Christmas...frightening, isn’t it ?

A few items for you…so off we go !

Milk Money : This will be due on the 18th. November and will cost you £2.20. Could you please send any cheques for milk money and lunches marked East Lothian Council.

Clothing : Please, please, please, please…..mark all your child’s clothing with their name. This would save a great deal of time, and would keep our lost property box empty…..it might save you money, too !!!

Primary 5/6 : Miss Leslie’s class enjoyed a trip to the Education Section of Edinburgh Zoo on their Rare Species Project. The work which the children have produced in this project is excellent, and you can see some of the artwork on the walls and on the website.

Primary 6/7 : Mrs Lauder’s class will be visiting the War Museum at Edinburgh Castle soon as part of their project on the World Wars.

Traffic : This is a continual problem around the school and I have recently had a parent reporting a near miss with a young child. I realise the difficulties but perhaps parents could park around the corner ( towards the playpark ) and walk their child to the school. Vehicles are not permitted on the netball court.

Volleyball Festival : Mrs Jones, our PE specialist will be taking our senior pupils to a volley ball festival on the 14th. November. They have been learning how to play the game and they will be able to put their skills to the test.

Dynamic Earth : Mr Lavery will be taking his class to the Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh in the near future. This visit is part of the class project on Weather.

Nativity : I know its early but our Infants have already begun to learn songs for their Nativity play which will be performed at the end of the term. Ms Anne Trail, our music specialist, is helping Miss Johnson with this production, and in a change from the norm, P3/4 will be assisting by playing instruments and helping with singing. More information nearer the time.

Nursery : The morning group from the Nursery enjoyed a walk in Binning Wood looking at the Autumnal trees, but unfortunately, due to difficulties with transport, the afternoon group could not go. Thanks to all parents who were able to help the staff.

On the subject of parents helping…the Nursery staff are looking for parents to assist in the Nursery. If you would like to get involved please see Mrs D’Arcy-Burt. The Nursery are looking for old nighties, jimjams and slippers for their dressing up box. Also, books for the library. Any items must be in good condition.

That’s it for this month
